Who I am

I’m Victoria Poveda — an artist and designer based in Madrid.

For years, I pursued control — in life, in design, and especially in my art. I worked with precision and realism, until I realized that what I was chasing wasn’t expression, but perfection. Watercolor shifted everything. Its unpredictability became my greatest teacher, guiding me toward a slower, more intuitive way of creating.

Now, I paint abstract botanical forms without sketching, without layering — just one moment, one gesture. My work is a quiet practice in letting go, in embracing imperfection, and in finding stillness within movement.

Each piece reflects this process: soft tonal shifts, organic shapes, and spontaneous marks that invite presence, curiosity, and calm.

My work is rooted in imperfection.

My Journey

Before I found this path, my creative work focused on realism, portraiture, and fine-line tattoos. I spent years building a career that revolved around precision — eventually expanding into mural painting and custom artwork across Spain and London.

In 2020, I completed a Master’s in Graphic Design, where I learned to blend artistic intuition with thoughtful visual structure. But it wasn’t until I returned to painting for myself — with no rules, no client, no outcome — that I began to uncover a different kind of creative purpose.

What began as a quiet return to watercolor became something more meaningful: a way to explore imperfection, soften my grip on control, and reconnect with myself through color, nature, and movement.

In the background, there is a black and gold hanging lamp, a large black ceramic vase with dried orange foliage, and a white basket filled with miscellaneous items. The wall has two framed pictures, one depicting an eye.

Why Do I Create

I paint to let go.

What began as a perfectionist pursuit — realism, precision, control — has turned into something entirely different. Watercolor taught me to surrender. With no sketches, no layers, and no plans, I let the pigment guide me. Each painting is improvised, intuitive, and fully present.

I don't create to capture a specific message. I create to release what I carry — thoughts, tension, emotion — and sometimes meaning only appears after the work is complete. It’s through this process that I’ve learned to embrace imperfection, and to find beauty in the strange, the unbalanced, the unexpected.

My work is not about reproducing nature as it is, but imagining it as it might feel: soft, abstract, and quietly alive.
