About
Victoria Poveda is a contemporary watercolor artist based in Madrid.
Victoria Poveda creates watercolor paintings through an intuitive and improvised process. Rather than starting with sketches or plans, she allows forms to appear gradually as pigment moves across the paper.
Her work often suggests botanical structures or natural rhythms, though the paintings do not represent specific plants. Instead, they explore how organic shapes emerge, overlap, and find balance on the page.
Working from her studio in Madrid, she develops series of paintings that investigate the expressive possibilities of watercolor — a medium that combines delicacy, fluidity, and unpredictability.
Artist Statement
I paint without a fixed plan. The first marks are usually simple gestures of pigment and water on paper, and from there the painting begins to evolve.
As the pigment spreads and dries, shapes start to suggest themselves — sometimes resembling leaves, stems, or other natural structures. I respond to what I see emerging, guiding the composition while still leaving space for chance.
What interests me most is this balance between control and unpredictability. Watercolor can behave in ways that are impossible to fully anticipate, and part of the process is learning to work with that movement rather than against it.
Over time, the paintings build quiet systems of forms and rhythms. They are not illustrations of nature, but reflections on how natural structures grow, repeat, and adapt.
Her work is collected internationally and occasionally placed within architectural and residential spaces. Selected works are also available for licensing and publishing collaborations upon request.
